I spent the majority of 23 years in the U.S. Army in air and ground Cavalry assignments including two combat aviation tours in Viet Nam and overseas tours in Germany and Korea. Retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Earned a Master of Aeronautical Science and a Master of Business in Aviation, both from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and a BS from the University of Utah in Political Science.
Past President / Commander and Charter Member of Snow Mountain Search and Rescue, an affiliated unit of the National Search and Rescue Association I have been a member of National Search and Rescue Association for over 30 years. Former member and unit leader of the Kentucky Rescue Association. On April 3, 1974 was one of the first responders to Brandenburg, Kentucky after a F5 tornado Experienced in both civilian and military search and rescue operations and extensive experience in air and ground safety.
Since August 2003, organized and taught a series of classes resulting in over 180 + new Technician licensed amateurs, completed Levels I, II & III of the ARRL Emergency Communications courses and mentored twenty-five Level I, II or III courses.
Official Emergency Station and State of Illinois Assistant Regional Radio Officer. Completed both the Federal Emergency Management Agency Integrated Emergency Management Course and Professional Development Series.
Former Council Training Chairman for the Mid-America Council, Boy Scouts of America.
The ARRL District Emergency Coordinator (DEC) is appointed by the Section Manager (or at the SM's discretion, the SEC may make the appointment) to support the efforts of local Emergency Coordinators (ECs) in the defined district. DEC Districts may be defined as geographical regions, areas of specialty, or similar organizational structures.
In addition to amateur radio, interests and hobbies include reading, photography, American pocket watches, Victorinox Swiss Army Knives, whenever possible working on the Heber Valley Railroad as a conductor, brakeman and student engineer, G Scale model railroading, gardening, collecting electronic gadgets and such.
Father of eight children, grandfather of twenty.
